Merritt Engineering provided the necessary engineering services to investigate the facades and roofs associated with Bergen County Academics School. All aspects of the façade were reviewed and an infrared scan of the roof was performed. A detailed outlook of the necessary repair requirements and anticipated budgets were prepared.
NYU Langone Medical Center, affiliated with NY University, is a premier academic medical center in Manhattan.Merritt Engineering performed a full roof replacement on the educational healthcare building in 2012.
Over the course of three (3) years, Merritt Engineering provided various engineering services to eliminate ongoing water infiltration problems that were occurring at five (5) individual schools. Services included investigation and water testing of the problematic areas to determine causes of the water infiltration issues as well as preparation of the necessary design documents for the repairs required. Design repairs consisted of full roof replacement, façade restoration, window treatments and infra-red scans of various roof levels. Work was performed and completed during the summer seasons to avoid impact on the daily school schedules.
In 2011, water infiltration reported by school personnel and deteriorating conditions of the building envelope prompted a much needed façade and window restoration project at The Town School.Due to school operations, however, the work schedule was limited to a 6 to 8 week time frame during summer months only. As a result, Merritt carefully planned a four-phase restoration project, designing each project phase to take place from early July through the beginning of September, over the course of four years.PHASE I – Playground Rooftop Replacement (Summer 2011)PHASE II – Façade Restoration (Summer 2012)PHASE III – New Window Installation (Summer 2013)PHASE IV – Façade Restoration of South & West Elevation (Summer 2014)Merritt worked closely with all contactors and school personnel to ensure the safe and timely completion of work.
In 2009 Merritt Engineering began façade and roof restoration projects at Holy Cross High School, an all-boys Roman Catholic high school in Queens NYThe gymnasium roof was replaced first, utilizing a modified bitumen roofing system with liquid applied flashing. Phase II included the restoration of the rear and side facades, which took place in 2009 and 2010.In 2011, Phase III was underway. During this phase, Merritt designed and specified the restoration of the school’s front façade, as well as the replacement of the north and south roofs. New pavers were installed at the second floor level terraces, providing a new functional outdoor space for faculty.Sensitive to the school’s day-to-day operations, Merritt carefully planned each phase to ensure minimal disruption to normal school activities.
